If you’ve never been to a chiropractor before you might be a little nervous or unsure about what to expect. We get it. It doesn’t help either that many social media videos show alarming looking chiropractic adjustments. Or you may think you’ll get your spine cracked.
At Stackis Chiropractic in Dubuque, we recognize that some patients feel anxious about their first visit which is why Dr. Jeff and the entire team are intentional about putting patients at ease from the moment they walk through our front door.
Before You Even Sit Down
When you arrive, you’ll be greeted warmly and given a quick tour if it’s your first visit. From there, you’re shown to a private room to fill out your intake forms at your own pace. Once that’s done, Dr. Jeff sits down with you to talk through what’s bothering you, your health goals, and what you’re hoping to get out of care, before any hands-on work begins.
Why the Exam Comes First
The adjustment isn’t step one. Dr. Jeff starts with a thorough examination to help determine what’s actually causing your symptoms, not just where they show up. X-rays are only taken if he determines they’re necessary, not as a routine step. Once the exam is complete, he reviews the results with you and walks through your treatment options, so you know what to expect before your first adjustment.
Not Everyone Gets the Same Adjustment
Some people want the traditional approach: hands-on adjusting, the kind most people picture, and Dr. Jeff is trained in techniques like Diversified and Gonstead for exactly that. Others, especially kids, older adults, or anyone who tenses up at the sound of popping and cracking, do better with something gentler. That’s where the ArthroStim® comes in, a handheld instrument that delivers a precise, low-force adjustment without any twisting.
So, What’s Next?
Once you know the routine, that first-visit anxiety mostly disappears on its own. Contact Stackis Chiropractic to set up a free consultation, or check our New Patient page for more details.
